passion

Today i feel like listing out the bands that I had played with ever since I picked up drumming :)

2008
My very first band was formed (impromptu) when I was in secondary 4.
Back then I still did not know how to play drums so the whole band idea thing was just ridiculously fun :D
CHMA (Catholic High Music Awards) came in around july/august (I cant remember) and my 'band' thought, hey we must take part !!
And so I forced my way to learning drums through google and youtube all, and I got myself a pair of drumsticks and practised the songs by playing on my pillows at home HAHAHA. It's really funny now that I come to think of it.
Anyway, my band was named 'Victor and the viscious vipers' because the lead singer's name is victor and we are so called the vipers haha.
And amazingly, we managed to play our songs very well. Our audition song was "you only live once" by the strokes. A very indie song. And apparently the teacher liked our song hehehe.
So we got into finals, and we decided to choose a old school rock to play.... 'back in black' by ACDC.
And I daresay my band played very very well and we literally brought the crowd forward to the stage :)

Anyway, we are supposed to 'win' because during rehearsals it was pretty obvious my band played the best. But we did not :(
After the awards, a lot of students went to ask the teacher about the reasons that my band did not win. And the teacher (a music teacher from my school) said that she also agreed that my band ought to win, but the other two judges felt that my band is too 'high' and made the audience went 'crazy' and the other winning band had more 'ups and downs'.*

*Here's the funny part! Apparently, the winning band has its 'ups and downs', we called it dynamite, because they made mistakes during the song :'D AND ALMOST EVERYBODY COULD TELL. Even my parents who came to watch said that winning band sucked why would they win haha.

BUT it's okay! I felt accomplished then, because it was my first ever performance on stage with a rock band. And it was utterly fun.

2008 holidays
Well, O levels was over and so I went on my journey to seek different genre of bands to play with :)
I found this girl, her name is Dulcie, which happened to be a friend of my friend's friend. HAHA.
She sings, and sings very well. And the good thing was, we shared a common liking for old school rock, such as kiss, aerosmith, guns n roses, motley crue etc. And so we deciced to form a band (I forgot the name)
We played for about a month or two and then we performed in a gig at the Arthouse :)
It was a fun experience!

2009
I came to know these few guys who are my CJ's classmates and they also play instruments so I decided to start a band with them.  (By the way we went to watch a local gig by some metal genre band and we had so much fun there :D.)

And so the band ( I named it 'another pufferfish escaped') had a goal, and that was to perform a gig in a local studio at jalan besar area. We practised over the weekends and our genre was more of heavy metal / rock. We played stuffs like velvet revolver, funeral for a friend, bon jovi etc.
Our mutual JC friends came to support during the gig.  It was a pay to play gig by the way :/ It means that we had to help the studio sell a certain amount of tickets haha. (Very smart right the studio, a good way to earn money haha. )

2010
CJC has a annual rock band challenge 'Rockafella' and of course I did form a band with my school mates to take part!
My band 'no puppets no strings' played a medley up of 'time is running out' by muse and 'face down' by red jumpsuit apparatus and one more song I cant remember now :P
Anyway we got second in place :)

*sorry didn't have access to full band photo :(

2010 holidays
Anyway, after I graduated from CJ, a few of us from different participated bands were called back to form a guest band to perform for the 2011 'rockafella'.  Pris (the lead singer) named us the 'all stars band' :D We played 'this love' by maroon 5 and 'sweet child o mine' by guns n roses. :)

 2010 holidays to 2011
And so after A levels I found another band online that played stuffs like Meg and Dia, paramore, Coldplay etc. We named our band - 'blame the eve'.
The group of people are really amazing and as our age gap was pretty small, it was fun during jamming sessions. After many practices, we also performed (and its my bandmates' ever first performance on stage so they were very excited) at scape, cineleisure orchard. I cant really remember the 5 songs we played but there's meg and dia songs and one cold play's 'the scientist'. Anyway it was a fun experience even though there wasn't much crowd haha. I had to quit the band because I was going to serve NS and I want to take this opportunity to say sorry to you guys! I'm really sorry for being the jerk who just avoided y'all, it was because I knew I wouldn't have time to jam with the band anymore so I must leave (I know you guys told me that it's okay we can still jam as a band but I kind of guessed I will cause the band to jam less frequently so I decided to quit) So, blame the eve, Im really sorry ! If I can turn back to time, I would have just stayed with you guys.
Here's the pic of us performing at scape!

NS 2011 to 2012
Despite the very limited time I have for myself over the weekends, I found a band online :P
It was the first band I had that the age gap among the members was pretty great. I was the youngest and still serving NS, while the rest had ORD and was working and 3 of them even went back for reservist (1 or 2 cycles)
We focus a lot on guns n roses, and played a lot of oldies songs as well.
We never get to perform but it's okay, everybody had something to take and learn from all the jamming sessions :)

Current
To cut the story short, im currently playing with two bands.
1. This band has way too many names, so I will just stick to one of the old ones, 'catfish'
We cover mostly indie songs, from artist like arctic monkeys (my favourite), the strokes, Bombay bicycle club, two doors cinema club, muse, nightmare of you etc.
We still have not performed but im determined that one day we will shine :)

2. This band, too, has not decided a name yet but we are working on it. So far we have 'the attic'
Anyway originally we are a 'paramore' cover band, since Sabryna (the singer) likes paramore songs. We did cover quite a few of paramore songs with three other dudes but we quit after a month or so because sabryna and I wanted to try something different. So the two of us formed a acoustic band (so I can play my cajon) with anther guitarist, mikail, and we are planning to do performances in local pubs in the future.

23rd birthday

Hi! just last week (on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th) I had my 23rd birthday celebration!

Cut cake with my baby and my family on Thursday night.
Here's a shot with my parents, cody and my favourite mango cake!

Then my beloved girl beautified my room (kept me waiting for an hour :'D) after the celebration with my family!
TA DA~

Then we spend some time on the attic, eating the remaining mango cakes, gazing at the full moon and the 'stars', and playing all-time-favourite- spark fireworks!
That really brought back good childhood (okay maybe not so childhood) memories!
But each stick only last that short while :'(

Then on my actual birthday baby brought me to Mint Toy Museum!
Even though it was meant to be a surprise, I was lucky to guess the place when she gave me hints it's near Raffles Hotel and city hall station etc. That's because I have been there many years back haha. *winks* But don't be sad baby! I enjoyed myself anyway! Loved to check out the toy collections there! Seeing the beatles collection was totally a bonus for me <3

Ended the day with watching Bad Grandpa at Cineleisure!
Thanks baby for the wonderful birthday celebration <3

Para, Paranormal activity. (The marked ones)

Hello! My baby and I went to catch paranormal activity 5 (the marked ones) on Tuesday after we had a little math-sequence-reading-session at AMK CB :)

I know this is a bit late but I feel like giving a review for the movie!
And first of all, thanks baby for watching it with me even though you 'say no' to horror movies :P

Alright! I shall rate the movie a 6/10 overall, partly because I am a huge fan of horror movies and I have watched the paranormal activity franchise for long.

So, this movie is particularly about how some people are 'chosen' and  'marked' by the witches whom we know exist since paranormal activity 3. [Remember the two little sisters Katie and Kristi who are 'cursed' by their grandma Lois, so that the girls would give birth to sons and then give up their own son to the devil. ]

This time round, it's a dude named Jesse. So Jesse has a neighbour Anna whom people believed to be a witch. And apparently, Anna knew Jesse's mom way back before he was born, and Anna had already chosen Jesse ! *But I just don't understand why does the witch choose a guy now, I thought they only plan to brainwash girls into giving birth to sons, what the hell do they want from a marked guy anyway?

So one night Jesse and his good friend, Hector accidentally witnessed Anna performing a witchcraft on a nude teen girl via a camera. The very next morning, Jesse realised that he has a bite mark on his arm, (little did he know he was marked by Anna).

Some days later, Anna was killed by a random dude named Oscar, who was also 'cursed' and 'marked' by Anna. Oscar committed suicide soon after, probably because he couldn't take it anymore or the devil forced him to.

As Jesse began to act more darkly and strangely, his best friend Oscar and Marisol decided to contact a girl named Ali for 'consultation' :P

*Ali is the daughter of the family in Paranormal Activity 2. She was the first to suspect a haunting in the family and went on to research about the roots that led to the paranormal activities. Ali discovered that long time ago, humans can make a pact with demons for power and money, in exchange they will have to sacrifice their very first born son to the demons. Hence Ali concluded that her baby brother Hunter must be targeted by the demons after realising that Hunter was the first ever born son down the family tree. LUCKY for Ali, when the possessed woman came to claim baby boy Hunter (in which the Mom and Dad died), Ali was overseas for a school trip or something.

Okay back to the story. So Ali gave Hector and Marisol some tips and advices, and told them that the final ritual will take place in this big house that belongs to Grandma Lois.
*Grandma Lois is the grandmother of sisters Katie and Kristi. Katie was married but no children. Kristi was married and has a baby boy Hunter and Ali is her stepdaughter :)

So, anyway, the film takes us to the familiar house which is occupied by all the witches and all.
And we know the movie always end up with all the characters DEAD. =X

Oh there's a part which is pretty cool and yet a little confusing. Hector was running for his life away from the demon Jesse and the witches and he somehow rushed through this weird-looking door that led to Katie's home! (Paranormal activity 1)

*So now we know what happened in the ending of paranormal activity 1. Remember those endless nights when Katie always wake up like a zombie and will either leave the bedroom or just stand beside the bed staring at her husband sleeping? The final night Katie woke up and left the bedroom. (Camera view is in the bedroom so we can only watch Katie leave the room and see her husband sleeping like a pig haha) Then suddenly we can hear Katie screaming from somewhere outside the bedroom, and her husband woke up startled then ran down. Then the film ended when we knew Katie murdered her husband and we witnessed her demonic face.

The connection is now pretty clear. So Hector saw Katie in the kitchen, asked her for help, but Katie screamed for her husband's name, and so the husband ran down thinking that Hector is a bad guy, but Katie killed her husband with a knife. Then, Hector is killed by the possessed Jesse.

Okay it's very obvious there's gonna be paranormal activity 6 and so on. Very draggy franchise but I will still watch the next one :P

Goodbye.
And goodbye to the bad dreams (not related to the movie of course) :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014 =)

Goodbye 2013, and.........WELCOME 2014!!
In the blink of an eye, there goes 2013 ! So many things happened in the year, some good, some bad, but most importantly I have learnt a lot :)
Looking back, here's a list of what has happened:
1. ORD on 6th March with a heavy heart. Even though I have looked forward to this day like everyone else, I was kind of sad to leave the camp because there were too many memories there!
As a commander, I realised that things were not as simple as teaching and guiding the soldiers who are going to serve their entire 2 years in infantry unit. Not only did I teach, but I have also learnt many valuable values from my fellow soldiers. Life was never easy, and it gets tougher as time goes by. We eat, sleep and train together. My section did me real proud when we never failed to achieve best section throughout the year and even my platoon won every best drill competitions. I had never felt a great sense of achievement when I witnessed my soldiers grow, from a bunch of ignorant boys to a team of determined and strong soldiers. All those times when I barely had enough sleep was really well paid off :) The countless field camps might be tough, but it allowed the commanders and soldiers to bond well! And I never regret going for the finale Brunei trip, because it was from the trip that I challenged myself as well as my soldiers to the limits.  Oh well, I daresay I considered myself lucky to be posted to a infantry unit ( even though I prayed hard to be posted to Tekong to be a BMT sergeant, so that I can enjoy my life like most people =D ) because then I can proudly say that I have served my unit well and did my best to bring out the beasts from my fellow soldiers and commanders :)

2. Worked at Outdoor Life. Overall it was a worth experience for me! Decent pay, friendly colleagues and convenient location:) I gained much knowledge about most outdoor activities such as appropriate gears and relevant information. Not to forget the fantastic staff discount =P Things got more fun when the colleagues and I organised makan outing, badminton games and jogging sessions at Bishan park after work! Thanks Ahmad, T, Gracia Cookie and Li Xiao jie for running AHM together :)

3. Completed semester 1 in NTU!

Oh, celebrated new year count down with Julia <3 and my parents and the aunty hairdresser at MBS during Rain's concert :) First concert ever in MBS and first new year eve with my baby :D
May the best to everyone in 2014!

Here's a list of resolution for myself in the new year (due by 31st Dec):

2. Follow the 30 days healthy challenge strictly for at least a month =P
3. Secure a second upper class for Semester 2 finals!
